It’s throwback Thursday again! Today I wanted to take you all back to summer of 2013 and talk about one of my favorite concerts – Train.
In the summer, one of my favorite things to do is go to concerts with one of my favorite cousins, my lifelong best friend and her boyfriend (who has also grown to be a good friend). We always seem to find a good concert, with cheap tickets, get our seats upgraded and have a blast.
Our usual venue of choice for the above is JiffyLube Live in Bristow, Virginia. I’ve seen Rascal Flatts there several times but this was my first time seeing Train and it was a perfect summer concert, on a perfect evening, with the perfect message, with the perfect people.
I had been super stressed with something at the time and felt like the world had been caving in. I was a wreck but I had bought these tickets months ago so I decided to go, again, with some of my favorite people.
When we arrived, we tailgated a little bit and had some awesome burgers that were made on the smallest grill that I had ever seen. They were seriously the most delicious burgers and even though this was 2013, I still remember how good they were. I kind of want one right now.
After the tailgate meal, we quickly went to the ticket booth and very cheaply upgraded our already very cheap lawn seats for an additional $20. We had amazing seats in the pavilion with no one in front of us but a walkway. Our view was insane and again, perfect.
We got ourselves some limaritas (at the time they were new) and they were huge. They were also expensive – it was like ball game prices – $13 for one. Totally worth it.

Michael Franti opened the concert and he was one of the best openers I’ve ever heard – he got the crowd pumped and it was totally family-friendly. His songs were great (I only knew one) and his Hit “Say Hey” had all the kiddos on the stage. It was this moment where I realized that you have a right to be happy in this life and you don’t have to be miserable or upset even if you’re faced with obstacles. When Train hit the stage it was just so cool. It was like a chill cafe rock concert in the middle of an arena. It kind of symbolizes their music – no? I feel like some of their songs are so EPIC. I love when I forget a song that an artist plays and then they play it. “If It’s Love” did that for me. Such a good song – maybe my favorite by them.
“Marry Me” is one of their forever songs – no one will forget that one. When it came on – the lead singer did this awesome thing where he literally walked around the entire venue. Because of our awesome seats, we all high-fived him.

The encore of the night was “Drops of Jupiter,” again EPIC. That was the song that kind of pulled me out of this so-small world feeling and showed me that it was a big place full of fun and adventure. I’ll never forget that feeling of being there with great people, with these epic songs on this awesome summer day.
I cannot wait for this summer filled with more concerts, more fun and more adventure.
